Ol' Headcanon Post

As you can probably guess, this post is going to be talking about the headcanon I have about X specifically, though I will note details about others, if it affects that headcanon or something similar.

--> X's armor is removable and not a part of his body any more than Rock's armor was a part of him.
While it's not shown in his appearances, the idea that X's armor is stuck to him makes no sense considering the personality of who made him. Doctor Light built Rock and Roll completely as "normal", without any armor, and just upgraded Rock later. Those two were his children and it's pretty obvious that X is just as much so, considering Doctor Light's attitudes and feelings. So why, then, would a man who's already have a history of giving his children a "casual" appearance not include the same onto his greatest and most human creation, especially one he hoped would not have to fight?

He wouldn't. Thus, X's armor can and does come off, he just usually only bothers when he's off-duty and trying to relax.

--> X and Zero's relationship can go either way: romantic or platonic.
With the way the two act in-game, on top of some of the ending/opening songs of the Megaman X games, both sides of this are supported. As anyone who plays anyone from that series knows, there's quite a bit of room for characterization and adaption, considering the very... inconsistant writing of the series, to say the least.

With that in mind, the relationship between X and Zero could go whichever way the players wanted it to, either as feelings that are completely different from familial/brotherly love and can bind them together in a romantic way or just a bond a la "heterosexual life partners" who were clearly meant to work together but are not romantically involved.

For the comfort of anyone playing with me, I will always assume that it's the latter (platonic) until the Zero player says otherwise; this X is in love with him, but it won't affect our RPing unless the Zero player wants it to.

--> X's armor possesses a sort of "data computer," which allows him to check various things while in the field.
To explain it as simply as I can, this is a headcanon of meshing gameplay with story. The "data computer" is basically the IC representation of the pause screen, tacking on some other things that it would make sense for someone like X (a person fighting dangerous enemies in the field) would have. Most of X's systems can still be accessed just mentally, however; the computer is just for more difficult (or intensive) tasks.

As for the data computer itself, it looks roughly like this:

--> X, being a robot, can store things much like a computer. Recordings or screenshots or such, and he can get messages or videos or what have you on his mental HUD from anyone who's synced up to his systems -- just Zero and Axl.
He is a robot with powered optics and a computer for a brain, after all, so X can store a lot of things in his systems and memory banks, or receive completely silent messages from people he's "synced up" to. Only Zero and Axl are synced to his system in this way, considering how intimate it is; for squad mates or Navigators, X just taps into the central system provided by the Maverick Hunter database or just uses the radio systems.

X is basically a computer, if one who can feel, so most anything you can do on there nowadays is possible in a better format in X's head.

--> X speaks almost every language known to man.
Since communication is an important part of not getting into fights -- as well as understanding others and defusing them -- X came programmed with all of the languages known (and still in use) at the time Dr. Light was still alive. Because of this, he can understand and speak almost any language he comes across, with two exceptions:
Ones so long out of use to be considered extinct, such as Arawá or Molala.
Ones from different dimensions entirely, such as Dovahzul (from The Elder Scrolls) or Orcish (from Warcraft).

--> X's actual storage/memory is close enough to be considered "limitless".
Because he was made with the idea of being as human as possible, as well as having a potential that was limitless, X's actual memory/storage banks are about as close to limitless as physically possible. Suffice to say, there is absolutely no chance of even coming remotely close to slightly cluttering his mind, much less running out of room, any time within the next few centuries or so.

--> X's systems have multiple copies of themselves to give a sort of "protective redundancy".
Being entirely reliant on one system means that once it fails, you're in a lot of trouble. To prevent this, almost every one of X's systems has a backup or multiple backups to make it so that he can properly function even with severe, borderline "knocked offline" wounds (aka running around on one bar of health). In addition to this, all the systems come with a sort of "check-sum" coding, allowing them to reference and cross-reference one another to purge out any attempts at tampering.

This is also what makes X impossible to infect -- with so many different systems checking against one another, it's simply not physically possible for a virus to get a foothold in him at all. While it might hurt him, his systems will purge it before too long has passed.

--> X has full control over all his body's systems.
Just like how a user can pick, choose, launch, or close down programs in their computer, X can do the same with his body, temporarily offlining or standbying certain systems if necessary, as well as rebooting or altering a system that's already running.

He can also, if necessary, cut off all access to a part of his body, making it essentially a metal accessory he's wearing until he opens the connection again. While X can technically cut off pretty much any part of his body like this, he prefers to stick with his limbs to avoid very worrisome problems cropping up. This is rarely ever used, but the option is still there.

--> X's self-repair is significantly strong, but requires a lot of energy to actually activate.
The health pick-ups you find in the games, ICly, represent a charge for X's own self-repair. Much like how the chips that restore his health if he stays still, if X has enough energy to allocate to his self-repair systems, he can recover from almost any type of wound so long as he's still operational. Very severe wounds require a lot of energy, however, and often times he relies on recharges from the Hunter Base between tracking down Mavericks to keep his energy levels up enough for his self repair to work right. As the Hunters have difficulty repairing him (and Zero), he prefers to rely on his own self-repair to handle things, though he will submit to their repairs if it's particularly bad.

--> X, Axl, and Zero -- like any military unit -- have a series of hand signals to allow them to communicate quickly while still being silent.
While being able to talk to each other through a closed comm or even silent "messages" is useful, all of that requires something being sent, which can be picked up by the proper machinery. For when they want absolute silence, X has an extensive series of hand signs that both Zero and Axl can recognize to get his idea or intent across. Likewise, X recognizes any signals those two may use as well, which is one of the reasons why the three work together so well.

--> Along with having the ability to cry, X also has the ability to eat and actually taste, though it's not necessary by any means.
X's body is built so that it can break down food into extra energy, though it's nowhere near as useful as a full recharge. This allows him to eat both for pleasure and necessity, if it comes down to it.

--> X is actually a skilled cook.
He likes doing nice things for his human friends sometimes so he's managed to pick it up easily, especially considering he can taste what he cooks.

--> Animals really like and -- more importantly -- listen to X. Yes, even wild predators.
This one actually comes from a touching but also hilarious scene from a chapter of the manga, where X somehow not only manages to extract the animals safely, but even prevents them from attacking or eating each other. He's able to just shoo them off back to their homes without any signs of violence or agitation at all.

Considering a wild stag was happy to carry him and a wild eagle was happy to rest on his shoulder, it's pretty clear evidence.

--> X dreams almost every night, and while most of them are pleasant, he does still suffer from nightmares.
Unfortunately for X, having such a human mind means he's subject to some of the problems humans have, and one of his major ones is that of nightmares. While X is programmed so that he can easily dream, both of old memories and new things his mind comes up with, that programming also lets nightmares slip in, whether also old memories or horrifying things that his guilt and self-loathing can cook up.

While he won't wake up "tired" or "charged" from these, like humans might, his mental state can be affected by them, and too many nightmares will cause X to become a little irritable for a time, like any human who slept poorly.
